While advance reservations are typically mandatory, the volcanic cone is open for exploration without prior booking during the International Trekking period. Visitors can wander through ancient forests along lava paths, reflecting on a profound history that ranges from the site's use as a Japanese military headquarters during the late stages of the Pacific War to the tragic memories of local residents who perished in vertical caves during the Jeju April 3 Incident.
