Located within the Jeju City Chunghon Cemetery April 3 Memorial Monument (Park Jin-gyeong Memorial Monument), this monument commemorates Colonel Park Jin-gyeong. Having gained extensive knowledge of Jeju's geography through his experience building Japanese military defense bases during the Japanese colonial period, he was appointed as the commander of the 9th Regiment during the Jeju April 3 Incident. He took command following a predecessor who had refused orders to carry out operations against civilians, but he was ultimately assassinated by a private operative affiliated with the Namrodang.
