<Medical tourism in Jeju>
For a visitor who hasn't encountered any form of traditional oriental medicine before, Korean medicine might seem like magic. But the origin of all traditional Korean medical treatments have deep roots and knowledge gathered for a thousand years. For example, acupuncture can be traced back as far as 3000 B.C. when stone and bone needles were found in North Hamgyeong Province, which is in present-day North Korea. Even mythological stories like the one about a tiger and a bear who wanted to reincarnate in human form and who ate wormwood and garlic marks significance in the use of herbal remedies. Korean traditional medicine flourished in the historical periods of the country. There are dozens of examples of written evidence and thanks to that much of the knowledge was successfully passed from generation to generation.
