Gyullim Seowon

Gyullim Seowon is a Confucian educational institution that served as a place to honor the spirits of the "Five Sages"—scholars who were either exiled to or served in Jeju during the Joseon Dynasty—and to nurture future generations of scholars. Although it was closed in 1871 due to the government decree to abolish academies, it was rebuilt in 1892. The Myojeongbi stele, originally erected in 1850, stands reconstructed at the original site.
