Daejeong Catholic Holy Ground
This sacred site is the resting place of Jeong Nan-ju Maria, Jeju's first Catholic convert. As the niece of the scholar Dasan Jeong Yak-yong and the wife of Hwang Sa-yeong, her life serves as a profound testament to her unwavering faith. The site is deeply connected to the history of the White Paper, which informed the Qing Dynasty of the persecutions during the Sinyu Persecution. Today, it stands as a symbolic landmark marking the beginning of Catholic history in Jeju, attracting pilgrims from all over.
