The Kumbadang Children's Library was originally a local space where presidents stayed during their visits to Jeju Island. Since its establishment in 1984, it has been used on eleven occasions by former presidents Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo, and Kim Young-sam. After being removed from security in 1996, it was also briefly used as the official residence of the Jeju Governor.
